Some basic newbie questions to get me started.....

Ok, I'm completely new to this site and may post some very basic questions.....

Here's a couple of queries I've got and would appreciate any help.

I've read the intro guide and it suggests either PPV or Facebook. This is what I've inferred from that guide:

- Facebook seems to be an easier and lower cost set up in that you can do direct links to offers, you don't need hosting, you don't need tracking software.

Question 1: Have I understood that correctly?

- PPV can be done with a landing page or direct link. If its a direct link, you don't need hosting or tracking software.

Question 2: Have I understood that correctly?

I'm just trying to come up with a starting point that's easy for me to do. It seems on the surface that avoiding having to set up landing pages, do hosting, and setting up tracking software is the best choice for a beginner like me.

Question 3: Would you agree?
I'm sure I can get my head round it if I need to. I'm not a techie by trade but I can get to grips with things with enough reading etc. I just figured that the less complexity I start off with, the easier it will be for me to learn the basics.

- Reading through the forums, I'm completely loathe to go for Facebook. It seems like a bit of a minefield in terms of getting rejected and banned. The reason I joined this site is because it was recommended by Viperchill and I am starting my own business in few months and want to use Facebook to promote my site, so I really don't want to risk getting a ban. I just want to start learning the ropes with affiliate marketing and that is why I'm here.

- So that leads me on to my fourth and final question. Of the forums I've read so far, POF is frequently recommended as a good place for newbies, but it isn't mentioned in the beginner's guide PDF.

Question 4: Is POF a good starting point and do you need hosting/landing page etc etc to do that?

Thanks.

you will learn along the way, don't overthink, yes you need at least a vps to host your lander and tracker.

yes, you need a VPS for your tracker.... Dont touch anything without tracking, it will be like shooting sticks in a dark room...

.
As a newbie here also, this is one of my questions, as I have read in a number of threads that POF is an ideal place to start. The 'getting started guide' is two years old and perhaps back then POF was not the best place to start.
I believe a new updated getting started guide is coming soon from what I saw at the bottom of Cuarmen's posts ... "COMING SOON: The New, Improved, Updated And Complete Step By Step Guide To Getting Started In Affiliate Marketing!" (I hope that's not two years old!)

The best thread to read right now if you want advice on where to get started is Stackman's 2013 guide - that'll steer you toward traffic sources that work right NOW.

I'd avoid PPV at the moment - it's very competitive.

POF is a good choice right now for newbies. It's friendly, it's comparatively simple and there's still money to be made.

You WILL need a server - just get a starter VPS from Beyond Hosting.

And don't worry, the "New and improved guide" message is not two years old - it's actually more like 4 days old! I'm in the process of writing it right now - literally, the "mindset" section is on my to-do list for today.

Why do we need a VPS and tracker? Why not shared hosting and Google analytics?

Clearly I'm a total noob. Why can't we send the users directly to the signup page where the offer is and they can sign up there, where we get the affiliate commission?

For lack of time to write a more helpful response, I leave you with this:

"If it were that simple, don't you think everyone would be making money on the internet?"

Haha, I'm sure some things are simpler than others. When you have the time, let me know or please point me to a thread on this.

Shared hosting will not suffice. It does not have the speed or resources to handle paid traffic. You also need a tracker to see who is clicking on your ads. Google Analytics is good for sites you want to rank on serps, not paid traffic. Data equals Money. You are competing with companies and marketers that have more money, data, and better terms than you. The least you can do is get a vps ( big boys have dedicated servers) and either p202, cpvlab, bevo, imobitrax, STM tracker, mobaff for tracking.
