CPV Lab - Redirect type? (4)

CPV Lab - Redirect type?

Hey guys,

With CPV Lab I 'Double Meta Refresh (hide)' my links. It's the default option. But I have recently been using the 'Direct Redirect (send)' function and it's much quicker to load. I'm sure this helps with conversions since it shaves a second off.

The link is still cloaked with the 'direct redirect (send)' but I'm guessing that without using the double meta refresh it means the advertiser can see where the click came from?

Is it riskier to go direct redirect? Or is it pointless worrying about cloaking as your shit will eventually get ripped anyway?

Cheers,

Kai

Exactly right. Without a double meta refresh, you're passing the referrer information on to the affiliate network.

That's definitely riskier. How big a problem this is will depend on what traffic source you're using, how much you trust your network, and a host of other factors.

I guess it's a catch-22. Either have a faster redirect or risk getting jacked by the advertiser.

It may be less of a problem in future if the HTML5 "noreferrer" tag becomes generally adopted. However, for now, I'm afraid that you've got to pay speed for security.

You could try using this code, which implements noreferrer on browsers that support it, or otherwise do a browser detect then either double meta refresh or direct link with noreferrer, but that's a bit more complex to achieve. I may look into writing about this in future - it's a nice speed boost particularly for direct linking.
