I honestly didn't want to get into the dating niche as it seems so crowded, but I'm operating in a country where I can literally only see one other advertiser (using personal targeting, and social ad ninja).
Affiliate marketing has been my main income for quite a few years now but I've never dabbled in PPC. I thought I would share my journey here. I've actually started a few paid campaigns these last few days and I'm having some success, but this is purely going to be in the dating niche.
Step 1: Found two affiliate offers. Unfortunately they are not instant payment options like you guys seem to be getting. Instead I have to wait until somebody buys premium membership down the road. This means I can't instantly see my ROI.
For now all I'm going to be tracking is free sign-ups and using my money as a learning experiment. My budget is around $2,000 for this month and I'm happy if I lose all of that but actually learn something.
One of the affiliate programs told me that I can get paid for free signups if I like - and they've done this with other affiliates - but all of them switched back to the 'wait for people to go premium' commissions as they found they were making more money.
I know this person personally so they have no reason to lie about this. However, it will be nice if I can find other offers for this specific country.
Step 2: Identified popular dating ad styles on social ad ninja. I have virtually no competition (and a big market) so I'm hoping this will give me an edge. My plan is to stick to one title and body text and then use around 100 images for testing.
Once I've found the best images then I will mix up the body text.
Step 3: Submitted my first ad around 15 minutes ago. I do have a number of campaigns running on FB so hope this helps with approval. I have used direct linking with an affiliate link (I see my competition doing this) so hope there are no problems there. Ideally I don't want to create a lander, but will if I have to.
I only submitted two ads as I don't want to add dozens and then not have them approved because of the affiliate link.
I'll check in every day and update with my results
Question: Does anyone else have issues with the 'duplicate ad' part of the Power Editor for Facebook in Chrome? It duplicates the ads, but then I never see them elsewhere in my account. Almost like I didn't do anything at all. I really don't want to create 100 ads separately.
Update, approved a couple of minutes ago. Not a bad start (I know it will drop massively)

Question 2: (Would appreciate any advice, since I hope to give back as much as I receive)
My spend on this campaign is $0.52 but the clicks only cost $0.28 so not sure where the extra money comes from?
Final update, just got my first sign-up. Shame it doesn't actually make me any money, but it might. Nice feeling after only being 10 minutes into the campaign. Time to start pushing a lot of new ads.
11 signups for $5.73 in my first two hours. Again, sadly have no idea what they will work out to in the future. Sadly this country does not have good dating offers that pay for leads. Maybe make my own site? Heh
Getting paid for free signups makes it more easy to optimize, especially when you are just starting. But since you are able to see the free sign ups, I guess that doesn't matter that much. If you are looking for international dating offers, feel free to reach out to me by skype
Ended up with 53 leads at $27 spent. My best image has a CTR of 0.377. Would have been amazing in another niche where you get $3 or so per lead. Would have been a big profit and I know it can scale nicely as well because I didn't optimise it at all. Haven't tested titles or really targeted the campaign at all.
Shame there is so much lacking in this country. Paused them all now to see if any convert into premium members. I've been told I can have $1/lead but it doesn't seem worth it for the long run. Almost tempted to start my own dating website in this country.
How'd this end up turning out?
Nice CTRs man. Looks very promising!
Any updates Glenn?
