Hey stackers, I'm scaling my traffic and looking to step my tracking game up. A lot people have recommended CPV lab for web traffic because it's a lot more robust than 202 and has some nice extra functions that 202 doesn't have.
However, MobAff Tracker is very intriguing to me. I have done some research on it and I like that it doesn't have to be setup on a server and that it doesn't eventually slow down your sever like any of the self hosted trackers will. 1 million free clicks is also an awesome deal. I'm no where near this volume so the service will essentially be free until I'm scaled out and stacking that green. I also want to get into the mobile scene soon so I figure it's a good idea to get comfortable with a mobile tracker as soon as possible.
I do have some concerns though... I read that you can't do pixel tracking with MobAff tracker. Will this cut down on potential conversions when running web dating offers?
Also, I first plan to be scaled out on web before I tackle mobile. Is MobAff tracker a viable option for tracking web traffic when compared to CPV Lab?
My last concern is the fact that MobAff tracker is relatively new on the scene and may not have all the initial bugs and glitches worked out.
Is anyone tracking their web traffic with Mobaff tracker and do you find it an optimal choice when compared to CPV Lab or STM tracker?
Thanks,
-Drock
I use it for mobile but I also create custom channel for my web traffic, as for pixel, I set up postback URL so I dont think that's an issue?
anyway if you are running primarily web, I suggest cpvlab as that's what they are for
if you venture to mobile switch to mobaff tracker
bug, as far as I know there's no custom date in v3 but that's being worked on I think
Hey guys,
Some of our top users have realized the potential of our tracker for traffic outside of mobile. When we built our tracker it was always our assumption that mobile and web are going to overlap in the next few years, so our platform is designed with that in mind.
Here is how people are using our tracker outside of mobile:
PPV - We have redirects based on browser and referrer so you can do some interesting optimizations there
Social - You can use subid variables to tag ages and genders and redirect based on that, great for POF macros
Search - Although CR tracking won't work with Google still a lot of valuable data, and you can redirect based on incoming keyword to custom offers/landers
CPV Labs like other applications will have issues as you scale, simple as that. Also, you will need to get your own hosting, not saying this is difficult, but something to consider.
Here is my advice, if you're keeping it simple (direct linking and basic landers) our application will fit your needs. If you are planning on designing email captures and follow ups CPV labs takes the cake.
@Devmob ... note custom time frames are all done. We are also improving our long term reports so you can pull Year To Date data as fast as todays data.
You know, when I first heard of the Mobaff tracker I was a bit skeptical at first, as I thought it wouldn't be as fast as a self-hosted one, since a lot more people would be using it.
Boy was I wrong. After experiencing some speed issues with my self-hosted tracker, I decided to compare it with the Mobaff tracker. Not even close.
In many cases, the Mobaff tracker was 3 to 4 times faster than my own; the closest I ever got was 1/2 of its speed. That thing gets faster response times internationally than mine got locally. Seriously.
The only downside I can find is that I realized this after I upgraded to the VPS 1024 and purchased the Maxmind Organizational database for the self hosted tracker.
Guess I will have to test both. They both sound like valuable tracking tools that I should familiarize myself with. Seems like buying CPVlab will be a good investment for me whether or not I use it for tracking my dating campaigns because I plan to eventually go for email opt-ins in other web niches in the future.
@intergrity: Thanks for the input. It's impressive that Mobaff tracker is that fast. On a side note, a noob question for you. Why do people buy maxmind databases when you can use the JavaScript for free? Looking at the maxmind site the prices for their databases are quite pricey (370$ initial fee with a 90$ monthly update fee). Does it give you a page load speed increase or something to host the database on your server? Is it significant enough to justify the price? Just curious because I use the free js version on most of my landers.
Also, what was causing the speed issues with your self-hosted tracker?
This is a great question. Personally I use both. CPV Lab for web, and MobAff for mobile traffic. I would try to use the MobAff tracker for your web traffic, you will get more familiar with how it works and it is more robust than CPV Lab. If you try it out and it works fine for web traffic I would stick with MobAff only. The reason I like to use CPV Lab for web is that it is slightly easier to make a html page for me, and I like to use the iframe pixels to track for web traffic. Php pages and server 2 server pixels are better for mobile, and they should work fine for Web traffic too, its just a personal preference.
