Best E-Commerce Web Store Software? (4)

Best E-Commerce Web Store Software?

My family business (my main client since my aunt quit haha) is currently using miva merchant for our web storefront. We are a dealer and are partnered with many different manufacturers, and have about 9,000 product listings to maintain. I outsource the inventory work to my friends and kids in college who know html.

I was wondering what the best web store software on the market is at the moment. We have half a dedicated server for $2,000/yr + the software with miva merchant/hostasaurus.

I'm really dreading moving the inventory over to a new provider but miva just seems outdated and the site is hard to navigate so I'm looking at some other solutions. Biggest issue is categorizing the products. My aunt did a half assed job on the inventory so most of the pages need to be redone anyway. I'm also afraid of losing my SEO if I change the site around...

Anyone in e-commerce want to chime in or been in a similar situation? All online orders are handled by about 5 employees, about $30,000/mo Rev from SEO on google so like I said I'm afraid to change it but at the same time it needs updating.

SEO shouldn't be a problem if you handle it right. However, there are a whole bunch of ways to handle it wrong.

I don't know e-commerce packages too well, but I've had to move large numbers of pages from one system to another in the past.

In an ideal world, your best solution is to find an ecommerce solution with flexible enough URLs that you can keep exactly the same addresses for all your products and pages. Anything else risks losing Google juice.

Failing that, you'll want to set up 301 redirects for every single product/page whose address has changed. Yes, this is going to be a massive pain in the ass - get one of your outsourcers to create the list of redirects and then review it yourself. You'll also want to use a tool like Xenu to check for broken links before and after the change-over.

301-ing everything may reduce your linkjuice a bit, but it shouldn't have much of an effect.

Good luck!

I've heard really good things about Big Commerce. I plan on looking at them closer really soon.

*nods* I've not used it myself, but I've heard good things about it too.

Obviously Shopify has a good rep as well, although may be too limiting for a big store.
