Doing Volume with PPV - Which tracker? (11)
Im paying for a dedicated server with BH and its about 900 per month. So my server is not the problem.
I have p202 installed and with ppv traffic it slows down to a standstill... reporting takes like 20 seconds and sometimes lags out, and i have to delete my DB like every other day just to be able to analyze keywords etc.
CPVLab ive tried before and it was kinda clunky and ugly looking, but can it handle volume with faster reporting? If so i might get it again, as i purchased it before and just didnt really like it that much.
Or imobitrax, can it handle ppv traffic and does it do fast reporting?
Any other suggestions for a tracker? Should i just get Cake or Hassoffers for my traffic? Its super expensive to just for my internal campaigns so idk!
Any other ideas for tracking would be great, and I did try prosper202 with MongoDB and it still doesnt do the job, it actually seems even slower for some reason.?
PS: Doing around half a million clicks per day or so
I use cpvlab with PPV. It can be sluggish, but when it starts to slow down I just optimize the DB
Reporting is slow, importing data from networks and whatnot.. I find it still requires a lot of manual labour to optimize my campaigns.
I haven't ran ppv on imobi, but as far as user interface speed / pulling up campaigns and stats, it loads instantly whereas cpvlab gives me 2-7 second delay. (both hosted on same server so cpvlab is just slower). Hopefully some big ppv affs will chime in here though.
Yeah I just used cpvlabs but Andy_D gave me the tip of clearing data every couple of days and it did the trick!
Sounds like optimising the way your databases work is the presiding problem here, rather than a specific tracking platform. What I mean is, if multiple tracking platforms are storing everything in SQL databases then retrieving all that info from those huge databases may be the bottleneck. Then if you replace em with a NoSQL solution like MongoDB and things are still slow then the bottleneck may now lie elsewhere. Has BH been able to help with this? You could use NewRelic to monitor your database activity and potentially find the source of the bottleneck, then get a solution for that.
Just my thoughts, you may have already gone through all that and had professional help...
Another thing that might alleviate stress would be cloud databases?, e.g. http://www.rackspace.com.au/cloud-databases
I don't think it's prosper , I have done millions per click a day on PPV and stats were fast enough.
You just need to optimize databases daily , make sure memcached is turned on and mysql is really optimized ( submit a ticked on BH ).
Also , every week or so make a backup of database and then empty it.

As Zeno and bbrock say, it sounds like you're getting database timeouts here, which would usually be from a very large or unoptimized database. If you haven't optimized or cleared out your databases for a while, that's probably the cause - at your volume, even a couple of weeks of unoptimized data could be slowing things down.
It may be worth setting up a cron job to run OPTIMIZE TABLES on your dbs daily, automatically, using "mysqlcheck". You could probably ask BH to set that up for you, or set it up yourself if you're comfortable with the crontab.
In addition to Zeno and bbrock's suggestions, you could also ask BH if they can install MariaDB rather than MySQL, as that's likely to speed everything up a lot (a factor of three or so).
Finally, if all else fails, my testing showed that Prosper database calls are mostly CPU-bound rather than anything else - so you could move to a server with a more powerful CPU and see if that helps.
I'm constantly hearing the phrase "optimize your database" when reading about Prosper. What does this mean from a practical level? What does it do, how can I do it and how can I automate it?
I'm using LiquidWeb's StormVPS sever.
When i used to run ppv, bevomedia was what i used. No database to update, easy to use, the platform optimized my campaigns, could scale quickly, plug in offers into the rotator and so much more.
I've heard good things with cpvlabs but rather not worry about databases.
