Introduction
Want to be able to track and review more information in Prosper than just a single keyword?
Maybe you want to be able to track Age and Gender from Plenty Of Fish, or you want to split-test without having to set up a separate campaign for each test in Prosper?
This is one of Prosper's least-known features - it's actually very simple to use, and incredibly helpful. So, by popular demand, here's a tutorial!
Stack That Money Mobile Tracker Users!
These tips are even more helpful in the STM Mobile Tracker - because it automatically stores carrier, device, OS and country data in this way, no setup required. You can also track even more C variables with the Mobile Tracker in the standard way.
Read down to "Viewing Your Additional Variables" to find out how to view automatically-tracked data for your campaigns, or carry on to learn about C variables.
Setting Up Your Additional "C" Variables
This is incredibly simple to do.
In the "Get Links" section of Prosper campaign setup (#7 in Prosper, Step 5 in the Stack That Money Prosper Campaign Setup Guide), you'll see the following additional fields that you probably don't fill out normally:

Just fill those with the variables you want to track!
If you're on POF or another traffic source that has "tokens" that will automatically track specific data ({age:}, {gender:}, and {state:} for POF, for example), put those tokens in these text boxes, one per box. Here's an example for POF:

If you just want to track your own variables (for example, if you want a URL for a Facebook split-test), you need to generate a link for each different version of your variables.
So, for example, you'd fill in "18-25" in the C1 field, hit "Generate Link", and use that link for your 18-25 campaign. Then you'd fill in "26-32" for your 26-32 year old campaign, hit "Generate Link", and use that link for that campaign. And so on.
Here's an example of the 18-25 campaign setup:

Viewing your additional variables
This is also very easy to do!
Click on "Overview", then click on "Group Overview":

This view works in the same way as most Prosper analysis screens - you can select a campaign, a date range, and so on.
However, you can also choose to group the results by which C variable - custom variable you set up - you would like to see.
To do that, select this drop-down box:

See the "c1", "c2", "c3" and "c4" variables at the bottom? Those are the custom variables you set up in "Setting Up Your Additional Variables". Select one of them, hit "Set Preferences", and you'll see your tracking data grouped by that value.
For example, if you're using the POF setup above, selecting "c1" will show you your tracking results - conversions, clickthroughs and so on - grouped by age. You can use this to see which age groups are converting better or worse.
On the Stack That Money mobile tracker, you'll also see "carrier", "device", "OS" and "country" listed here. Select them to see your data grouped by that variable - which devices convert best, for example.
And that's it! I hope that was helpful - if you're still confused or if you'd like to suggest a change or improvement, please do comment below!
Hey caurmen,
so for the mobile tracker, can I put c1: Carrier, c2: Device, c3: Os, c4: country all at the same time or am I doing it one by one like how you explained for the age example. And after I add the c variables do I have to add anything else in my lander html file? Also,in step 3 of your setting up a campaign guide there are the "c" buttons. When are we supposed to use those?
@dnguyen - You don't have to add any of those, in actual fact - the mobile tracker tracks them all automatically. You also don't have to add anything to your lander!
You'll only need the "C" buttons in Step 3 if you want to forward any of these variables to the affiliate network.
