Hi,
Anyone got any recommendations for a manged vps provider in Europe?
Thanks,
http://www.layershift.com/
I haven't been using them but they were on my final list when I picked mine. As I have a access to a good sysadmin I picked hetzner dedicated and unmanged but layershift were my top choice for managed.
Bytemark do offer managed servers - might be worth inquiring with them. They're very technically competent indeed and their servers are great, but I don't know what their managed prices are like.
adrian, caurmen where do you find a good sysadmin? Usual spots (freelancer.com,etc)?
I'm also looking for someone to do a good security check on my VPS because I followed all the guides online but still want someone to take a look at the security.
I am using a local guy.
There is this company that is very popular on hosting forums: http://www.platinumservermanagement.com/ and probably few more like them. Just look up the appropriate section on http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ and you will find a company to do this. If this is mission critical I suggest either a local guy or post in the freelancer thread at news.ycombinator.com
I've worked with the same sysadmin for the past decade or so on anything that was beyond my knowledge, so my answer to "where do I find a sysadmin?" is "my address book", I'm afraid
Posting in the freelancer thread on Hacker News (aka news.ycombinator.com) is a good suggestion, though. You won't find super-cheap people that way, but they'll be good.
