CDN Recommendation

Hello, any of you kids using a CDN? I'm running around 2TB a month, but am looking to shop around a bit due to a new project. Currently using MaxCDN

i used maxcdn before but switched to rackspace "cloud files" they are using the akamai network..and i'm glad i did because maxcdn wasn't that reliable.

+1 rackspace / akamai FTW

If you are looking for a budget one but with good coverage take a look at cdn77

I second (or third) that, RackSpace Cloud Files, it's perfect. 3 months now, no issues.

I used Max CDN but it's not reliable - I had 3 hours downtime on my EU zone within the first 2 weeks of using it.

I also tried CDN77 and a/b tested again RackSpace, RackSpace was by far the better performer.

It would be interesting to see some pragmatic test results surface, i.e. split testing of CDNs with something like NewRelic's Real User Monitoring to give some geographically distributed data on actual user page load times across a range of high volume pages. I am hesitant to endorse any particular CDN at the moment without that kind of data, since most A/B tests are confined to a particular geography (or a few) and the test metrics are CTR/ROI rather than real-world load times.

You're right, but let's leave that to the pros, *cough* caurmen.

Is that the Bat-Signal I see?

Sounds like a great idea for a testing article. I'll look into it.

http://www.cloudharmony.com/speedtest

you can create a test in any geo...and make sure to set it to small file size

also is nice for testing cloud providers

We've been using Akamai and have been very happy with them.

Seems like RackSpace is the preferred choice, I'll give it a try.

When was the last time you guys used MaxCDN? I just ran PB's speed test for US/CA and found MaxCDN out performed RackSpace and Akamai for file downloads, but was beaten by Amazon S3.

I wouldn't use anything US-based to compare CDNs. The fact is for an affiliate marketer it's load times outside of the US/CA that CDNs can actually make much of a difference on. Inside the US most of your landers are going to load so fast that it becomes a nebulous battle of blazing fast versus lightning quick.

I should have mentioned that I'm running video through the CDN, via a VOD Zone

Caurmen tested our CDN and said we blew everyone out of the water.

Worth asking about. :-)

I was very impressed with BH's CDN, yes - bloody fast in the regions I tested (US and EU). Definitely worth looking into.

Hey Tyler, discounts?

There are lots of good options out there , but I have been pretty happy with MaxCDN.

For EU campaigns load times were much faster then my US server.

Hey Does Rackspace offer origin pull? Or do you have to upload all your stuff through ftp, bc thats a pain in the asssss....

This is pretty good though:

https://www.cloudflare.com/network-map

And it is free if you want to test it. You know these guys took most of the DDoS traffic directed to spamhaus a few months ago.

I use them for some websites pretty good. You can use them if you switch from one server to another as their service helps reduce any propagation to a few minutes.
