Does everyone use a separate domain than their tracking domain for landing pages? If so, do you make the separate domain niche specific?
Thanks in advance!
This was discussed a few time already. The big dogs use niche (or country) specific domain names. However, most admit that conversion rate isn't so dependant on domain name; so it make sense to buy a specific domain name just after you found a profitable campaign.
I've done extensive a/b testing on the importance of the LP domain name, and I found it's not noticeable - just stick with a relevant .com - like awesomeassprizes.com for sweeps, or sweetfinancenews.com for bizops.
Most use separate domains, yes - I highly recommend it. After you seen a few million visits to a domain, it will get flagged by various anti-virus/malware software - some people make it their mission to report LPs as AdWare/Malcious etc even though they're nothing of the sort (typically). This is not the case for the redirect/tracking domain. I've sent close to 20 million clicks thru mine, and no flags. It just makes it easier to swap out your LP domain, without having to change your tracking links when you do so.
Something that is noteworthy. Your domain will get flagged due to geo IP redirects that affiliate networks are using more and more. People who monetize these so call geo misclicks, like Scott Richter, YTZ and others, their domains are often times flagged which in turn may result in your domain being flagged. I always ask my affiliate network to disable these bullshit redirects as I get nothing out of it - only trouble..
