Hey guys, does anyone know how to use the profit/loss and ROI tracking in CPV labs when you're CPM bidding?
I’ve checked for threads, but nothing specific to answer my question.
I’ve had success using it to track everything else, but since I’m using TrafficJunky, and buying on a CPM basis, I didn’t know what to put for CPV or CPC.

I tried using CPV and putting my average CPM cost (for example .5), but the ROI and profit/loss were off. I even tried choosing CPC and using my average CPC as the value, but it was still off on the ROI percentage.
I’m leaving it at zero for now, because at least it’s getting my profit right and I’m using a spreadsheet to figure out my daily ROI, but it would be nice to be able to use CPV’s stats on that.
The average spend variable is only meant to give you a close estimate of your P/L, it will almost always be slightly off due to click discrepancy, changing banner CTR etc. To give you the exact numbers you can upload reports or just use the stats from your traffic network.
If you run a campaign for a while you will usually be able to determine the factor that the CPV Lab stats are off and adjust the CPV accordingly, e.g. if you see that you have a negative 30 % click discrepancy, you choose a CPV that is 30 % higher than within TrafficJunky.
Just look at TJ spent and CPVLab stats for converting creatives. No need to have it ready 24/7 in my opinion, just for optimizing / checking and analyzing. Beside that, I also stick with an excel spreadsheet for tracking overall P/L and pretty much works ok for me.
Yep, this is a problem with most tracking software, and there's no easy fix.
Generally, the best recommendation is to do what you're doing and track in a spreadsheet. CPVLab does have the ability to upload spend reports, but it's decidedly tricksy to use. I may cover it in an upcoming tutorial - but honestly, a spreadsheet's probably as simple!
This problem validates our mission to kick out-of-date tracking software to the curb
Work out your ecpm and it should be very close.
