Follow Along - Lead Impact, E-mail Zip Submit

Campaign Report

Traffic Source: Lead Impact
Offer(s): Get a Free Ipad ZIP submit (Rotating 4 offers - 1 Get Ads, 3 Peerflly)
Networks: Get Ads & Peerfly
Destination URL: Rotating 2 Landing Pages
Hosting: Shared (Hostgator)
Tracking: Payperview Dominator

Hey guys,

I've been lurking in the background on this forum for about 2 months absorbing as much information as I can.

I finally got my first official campaign up and running. I'd appreciate your feedback.

In terms of campaign strategy, the NBA finals is going on right now so I decided to set up a campaign targeting nba themed keywords with a voting style (who's going to win the nba finals?) landing page similar to the Just Bieber one floating around this forum from stack.

Here are the results:

Day 1:
Targeting: 27 targets (keywords)
1 Landing Page (Landing page 1)
Rotating 4 Get free Ipad offers equally

Impressions: 667
Clicks: 16
CTR: 2.7%
Spend: $10.01
Conversions:0

Notes: Because my campaign performed terribly, I decided to add a second landing page (Landing Page 2) with a different headline. I also paused two of my targets because they were too general: I.E. "miami" and "heat".

Day 2:

Targeting: 25 targets (keywords)
2 Landing Pages rotated evenly (Landing page 1 and Landing Page 2)
Rotating 4 Get free Ipad offers equally

Impressions:

[Landing Page 1 Impressions: 273]
[Landing Page 2 Impressions: 290]

Total Impressions: 563

Clicks:

[Landing Page 1 clicks: 41]
[Landing Page 2 Impressions: 0]

Total Clicks: 41

Landing Page:

Landing Page 1 CTR: 15%
Landing Page 2 CTR: 0% (no clicks at all)

Overall CTR: 7.3%

Spend: $10.01
Conversions:0

Total Campaign Spend: $20.02

Rip away... I can take it. ha ha ha

PPV and zip submits - oldschool! I'll be interested to see how you get on with this one.

My immediate thought is that you'd probably do better testing radically different landers. Your two versions here are more tweaks than totally different takes on the same idea - I'd recommend testing a bunch of COMPLETELY different ideas before you settle down to tweaking.

There's loads of good inspiration for PPV landers over in the STM Master Lander Collection.

I'd also work a bit more connection in between your headline and your offer ("Get a free iPad"). Currently it's a bit jarring - I'm thinking "hmm, I don't know, who will win the - wait, free iPad, what?". Even a simple change like "let us know and you could win a free iPad!" might work better.

Maynzie posted a great piece about PPV landers last year: http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...of-Year!-Quick! - he's doing very similar things to what you're doing there, definitely worth a look.

Hope those suggestions are useful!

Thanks Caurmen for your valuable feedback.

I will let this campaign run for one more day. I will try adjusting the sub-headline like you mentioned.

Clearly, I've been hanging out in the wrong threads based off your comment.

When it comes to PPV what is considered new school? Please point me in the right direction?

Day 3:

Targeting: 25 targets (keywords)
1 Landing Pages (Landing page 1 only - removed Landing page 2)
Rotating 4 Get free Ipad offers equally

Impressions:

[Landing Page 1 Impressions: 667]

Total Impressions: 667

Clicks:

[Landing Page 1 clicks: 51]

Total Clicks: 51

Landing Page:

Landing Page 1 CTR: 8%

Overall CTR: 8%

Spend: $10.01
Conversions:0

Total Campaign Spend: $30.03

Notes: I plan to run this campaign for one more day before completely pulling the plug. For tomorrow, I plan on adding and rotating in one more landing page and switching up the sub-headline from "Get a Free Ipad" to "Let us know and you could win a free iPad!"

Do you specifically want to run PPV, or are you looking for a way to get your feet wet in affiliate marketing in general?

If you're looking for general advice on what's better to run in 2013, Stackman's thread on the subject is a must-read.

I would recommend NOT starting with email/zip submits. Definitely follow caurmen's advice to find greener pastures...

I thank you for that advice. My goal with this campaign was just to get in the habit of building campaigns period and not necessarily to make a profit. Although a profit would have been nice.

I think I will jump in to dating next and focus my efforts within that vertical.

I'm actually quite experienced with Internet Marketing and affiliate marketing.

I currently work a 9 to 5 as a Search Marketing specialist mostly running Google Adwords campaigns.

I've done SEO for gaming sites Intercasino.com in the past.

I started affiliate marketing way back in 2005 in the Google Cash days (The good old days) with direct linking, but have not been active in it for about 4 years. So before joining this forum 2 months ago, I was way out of date on affiliate marketing best practices. The stuff I've read here, all the strategies and tactics, are mind blowing.
In this forum, when I first joined I started reading all of the old content first so I guess that's why I started off by running campaigns using old school tactics, which are new to me...ha ha.

But anyways, I'm just looking for some guidance on where to focus my efforts in terms of verticals, the types of offers I should be targeting in terms of dollar value, scaling potential, etc..

I don't want to be old school up in here. :-(

Hey anglewhiz, good luck with this. I just joined STM yesterday and was planning to jump into PPV with confidence. I'm still going to give it a shot but I'm a little put off from all the posts and advice that suggest PPV isn't the best route for a newbie. I kinda agree since I have struggled big time with it and have yet to find a successful campaign. Regardless, I'm going to give it another try since I have some credit in my LI account. So I should be starting a follow along shortly along the same lines as you.

Hope it goes well dude! And if it doesn't, I'm sure you'll learn a lot from it.

@anglewiz - I'd definitely follow Stackman's advice on beginner verticals and traffic sources right now - the landscape has changed a LOT in the past two years. Looking forward to seeing how you progress!

@kai1 - also looking forward to your follow-along! There's definitely still money out there in PPV.

Day 4:

Targeting: 25 targets (keywords)
2 Landing Pages (Created 2 new landing pages, Landing 3 and Landing Page 4)
Rotating 4 Get free Ipad offers equally

Impressions:

[Landing Page 3 Impressions: 323]

Total Impressions:323
Total Clicks: 38

Landing Page:

Landing Page 3 CTR: 11.8%

Clicks:

[Landing Page 4 Impressions: 310]

Total Clicks: 45

Landing Page:

Landing Page 4 CTR: 14.5%

Spend: $10.01
Conversions:1
Conversion Value:$1.40

Total Campaign Spend: 40.04
Total Campaign Revenue: $1.40
Total Profit: $-38.64

Notes: I know this is a big no big no, but I don't have conversion tracking set-up for my offers through Peerfly because my tracking solution does not have postback support. So I could not determine what keyword, landing page generated that 1 conversion, which came through peerfly.

So my next move is I'm going to invest in CPVlab so I can have proper conversion tracking for my campaigns.

Day 5:

Landing Page 4 CTR: 16.5%

Spend: $10.01
Conversions:1
Conversion Value:$1.60

Total Campaign Spend: 50.05
Total Campaign Revenue: $3
Total Profit: $-47.05

Notes: Well I'm pulling the plug on this campaign. I'm not willing to invest any more money into it.

On to the next one.

So my next move is I'm going to invest in CPVlab so I can have proper conversion tracking for my campaigns.

was literally thinking the same thing, been a long while since I've seen any of this haha!

Bro you definitely need a higher Lander CTR if you're going to get this campaign profitable, 8% on a zip campaign is low from what I've seen.

One of the most successful ways I've personally and many people have succeeded before in these campaigns is too simply screen shot the lander itself, cut it out to a page that fits the pop up window, cut out a bit of the text, add a big CLICK HERE or GET IPAD NOW etc, when they click it basically flows to a maximised version of your pop up which is the offer itself and hey presto CTR is high and conversions too.

Also you should really check this out http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...tails-Revealed

Running your own version with coreg TRUMPED the advertisers version (not sure if this is still allowed, just good to know)

Although I don't plan on running anymore zips for now, I thank you for this powerful tip. I just don't see how you can make zips profitable these days so I will definitely look to greener pastures. I thank everyone for their feedback on my campaign. I learned a lot.

No probs, anglewhiz. By the way prosper202 is free if you haven't got tracking and I think Bevo too (although I haven't tried it).

If you specifically want to get CPVLabs, you can get a discount from me. I can give you 100% of my commissions. I'm not trying to push for a sale here - I wouldn't make anything anyway. I'm sure you can find a discount if you just google it. It's expensive when you're just starting out but a great tool to have.

I also found running email submits really hard going. I've been trying to revive old campaigns which failed but had high CTRs. Will see how it goes. Not sure what to do about my follow along now. May try another traffic source, maybe POF or adult.

anglewiz.. The best performing email/zip offers I could get running with lead impact (using peerfly also) was by doing along these lines..

"xxxxx.com Visitor Survey.
You are todays *insert city geo ip* visitor selected to take a feedback survey. As a thank you for your time you will be able to select one of our exclusive offers."

Then start a javascript 3 simple question quiz.. with the usual "checking your answers" crap after the last question.. eventually landing on 3 offers set out in a line.. target the offers to the sites you are hitting. IE if you are sending a womens forum or social site as URL keyword, hit them up with gift cards, beauty stuff or colourful iPhone or something etc..

I managed to get one or two URLs profitable, but to be honest, for the amount of failures it took to find one or two good ones it wasn't worth the time or effort in the end. My time was more valuable on other things than spending all day looking for new targets that would faill haha

in fact, i still have the lander in my files here.. heres a screen grab so you get the jist..

06-18-2013 03:33 AM #19 maynzie (Moderator)

^ yeah that stuff was so powerful not to long ago haha, not sure about now though. Coreg is still alive though, some people are still throwing back insane numbers

06-18-2013 08:01 AM #20 dynamicsoul (Member)

I guess it could have been profitable had I found about 10 consistent target urls and moved it over to trafficvance for some volume.. but I don't have an account there, nor the time to test out hundreds of domains to find the golden one or two..

When playing around with zip/email submits you need to remember that final webpage is not optimized for all those oldschool webrowsers LI is using we currently have pretty interesting case study with numbers how we have managed to increase our ctr by optimizing landing pages to all those oldschool browsers.
