Traffic Junky Ads Gone? And Bids Have MULTIPLIED?

I was targeting a particular placement on TJ recently. Uploaded 5 ads. Promising profits up front and room to scale/raise bids still.

Then one day, all my ads were gone and the bids were WAY higher than they originally were.

Yeah...a couple things with that...

1. Where the hell did my ads go? Does TJ just take down ads after they are approved and fuck you?

2. How did bids skyrocket overnight? Is this a common occurrence? Not sure if I am feeling that. May just stick with more predictable traffic sources if this one is going to misbehave.

Any feedback would be great because, WTF.

Have never heard of such an experience with TJ. Have you contacted them?

TJ sometimes changes my bids up too but only right after I set them, so I always double check on the dashboard.

Never had issue with the ads disappearing but have seen bid skyrocket. Especially on weekends bro. Even 1 time i was running profitable campaign with them and an advertiser came in and bought all their inventory and my traffic was gone. Stayed like that for a couple weeks. I hit them up and they said it was a big advertiser that was close with them and i would have to wait it out. I stopped running traffic with them after that. They definitely cater to big money. I guess if its your biz you want the most bang for your buck as well.

Yeah I am thinking that is just what happened. It is so weird coming from other traffic sources to TJ when they have ad slots that just get taken over for a while.

I am still wondering where my ads disappeared to...they haven't answered. -_-

The big fish eats the little fish on TJ. Happens a lot, and particularly on the weekends as mentioned. I've never seen my ads disappear though.

Try diversifying your placements across as many of the spots/hubs as you can. If one placement gets nuked, you should still have a couple bringing in the dough.

Hey guys!

This is Nada from TJ. Quite a bit of your concerns to respond to over here so I'll break it down by user and comment.

1. Where the hell did my ads go? Does TJ just take down ads after they are approved?

In extremely rare situations we do have to reject an ad after it’s approved. What happens is there’s no prior example for reviewing the ad you uploaded and so we may approve it right away but then have to re-asses the decision we took. I’m not sure this is what happened with your ads though so please contact us at support@trafficjunky.net and we’ll look into the ads and give you an answer.

2. How did bids skyrocket overnight? Is this a common occurrence?

TJ is a self-serve bidding platform. Any advertiser that has an offer that is converting well can raise their bid to get a boost of traffic. Also, some advertisers use time targets to have their campaigns go live at certain times which can make the pricing on zones get competitive all of a sudden

TJ sometimes changes my bids up too but only right after I set them, so I always double check on the dashboard.

The only explanation I have for this is a lag in the bid value updating on the page. Refresh the page before you are done setting your bid to be sure that the bid you actually set by clicking the arrows is the bid you want to set.

We’re a bidding platform with a limited supply. If you’re out-bid by an advertiser with a bigger budget then there’s nothing we can do about it on that zone since the traffic supply is limited. There is more traffic on other zones that you can test. Use the pricing and inventory tool to see what’s available and what the CPM prices are.

We had an issue this morning preventing log ins for a brief period. We sinerely apologize for this. It’s now resolved. If you have any concerns please let us know at support@trafficjunky.net

Please let me know if you've got any other questions or comments.

Cheers,

What happens if 2 advertisers are at the exactly same bid? Is the traffic split evenly?

Why not allow a "smart CPM" bidding system like exoclick so people don't have to sit and refresh the bids all day?

Hi ffclogin,
Having the same bid alone won't get you the same amount of traffic. The more targeted your campaign is the more you'll have to bid for volume.

If two advertisers are at the same:
- bid
- daily budget
- geo-targets
- other targets (time, keyword, etc...)
- frequency cap
then the algorithm will distribute the same volume of traffic to their campaign.

We've got a technical team that includes mathematicians and data scientists who are constantly working on our traffic distribution algorithm to make sure it's always optimal. If you have any suggestions let us know, I'll send it over to our technical team, they will be best able to asses it. We've already had a lot of growth and progress as a company by listening to you guys so please never hesitate to share what you think. Send your feedback to support@trafficjunky.net .

That is in fact my suggestion: make your CPM bidding "smart CPM", which means incremental bidding. You set a maximum CPM you're willing to pay, but what you're actually bidding is 1 cent above the highest bidder at any point, up to the maximum CPM that you specified.

I.e. Vickrey Auction style like many RTB platforms? Well, kinda.

This is something we already have planned for the future. Let me know if you have any other feedback.

While we're on the subject of feedback, maybe improve your interface a bit, seems a bit jumbled and hard to find.

It took me like 45 minutes to find where I can increase my budget the other day. You guys gotta clean it up a little!!!

I agree with cataclysm1987 regarding the interface and wasting time finding things in TrafficJunky. I do like TrafficJunky traffic, but the Exoclick platform is way easier to use and set-up campaigns in.

cataclysm1987 and jorgan17,
This is also in the works. I don't have an exact date on when the new interface will be released, but we worked closely with our clients to make sure it would be up to standard for our users. If you have any specific feedback about the interface let me know and I'll forward it to the UX team and they will look into it.
