Best Tricks To Increase Banner CTR? (4)
What are some tricks to get people to click on banners? I know the fake scroll bar is a good one, but what are other ones? Trying to brainstorm a few and test them all out, I'm sure theres got to be some killer ones I havent thought of yet!
- animation of all kinds
- play button
- elements overlapping the border
- WTF images
- good ad copy
- Arrows pointing to CTAs.
- Solid calls to action that promise a benefit
- Contrasting border that makes the ad stand out from the rest of the color choices on the page.
- Boobs 
Do remember, of course, that a higher CTR doesn't necessarily lead to a higher signup rate (particularly from the last one)!
The chat creative is a constant CTR winner in the dating niche, which is slightly depressing (hurts me that people can be so stupid).
As Caurmen says though, some of the effects above will attract clicks and then lose them just as fast. The play button overlay being a prime offender.
Whatever you decide to use, make sure your landing page bridges the jump. A chat creative should go to a landing page where the 'chat now' element is sold hard.
