Useful tip for affiliates making slow progress

Smaxor of A4D put up a nice post yesterday highlighting a pretty common issue for affiliates:

http://www.oooff.com/php-affiliate-s...nce-and-stuck/

It covers how to manage the jump from a mindset that only cares about getting profitable, to a mindset of dominating verticals for big profit.

His point about finding the high-traffic inventory first is bang on the money. A lot of affiliates laser-target their campaigns and go for the low hanging fruit, the $100/day stable earners that are tough to scale. There's nothing wrong with that, unless your goal is to hit the jackpot with a 'big one'. In which case, you are probably fisting yourself in the balls.

One of the things you'll notice with the top, top affiliates is that they find traffic (or opportunities for arbitrage) first, before trying to match it to an offer. They don't start with the offer and then look for traffic.

As Smaxor puts it:

[9:55:43 AM] Jason Akatiff: I typically like to think where’s there a ton of ad inventory “first”
[9:55:52 AM] Jason Akatiff: then figure out what to put in front of it to sell

This might seem like a small difference in thinking, but I know many publishers are guilty of working in reverse. Myself included at times.

Take a read, it's good stuff.

Thanks for the post Finch! This has really been my goal from the start, and now that I'm learning more I'll be focusing on this even more.

Finch thanks for this thread. A while back i was very much in the same rut as the guy in the article.

The hard part is that you read so many success stories of guys making bank with source X and offer Y. I would then think "oh great! I'll just go down the list of offers/source combinations until find one that works for me!" I probably tried 10 traffic sources and dozens of offers with moderate success but never really just stuck with one thing and made it work. Its like trying to learn 10 different languages at the same time and being terrible at all of them.

Now i actually sit, do research, brainstorm angles and launch campaigns. Otherwise you try to do too much piddly shit at once and never end up getting anything done. Bridging the gap between a high traffic source and offer is a huge part of the game. Learn it and master it. Are you stuck? Stop trying to learn php and start learning how to write ad copy! I know I'm pretty much echoing many things that are already on this forum, but there is a common theme here for a reason. Get to work guys!
