How would someone promote CPA offers with SEO?

Looking for some ideas here on how someone would do this. Do I just get ranked high for junk traffic and send hundreds of thousands of hits to crappy blogs with tacky banners?

Umm, what? There are many ways one could go about promoting CPA offers with SEO, but this does not sound like a method that would work very effectively. The only thing about SEO is you need to plan ahead, perhaps already have a site up and running for some time, with an extensive backlink profile and high PR preferably. From there, just throw in some solid landers and sounds copy in the desired niche. Blogs could work, lead gen funnels could work. Hell, about anything could work with SEO, you just need to have a plan from the get go, and tons of patience.

Having done this a fair bit, there are basically two parts to the problem:

Part 1: Get decent traffic for a niche that has plenty of offers. Note that "decent traffic" doesn't necessarily mean "millions of hits" - it's all about how targeted the traffic is. I've heard of people making a nice living on less than 10k uniques a day in some niches.
Part 2: Optimise like any other campaign, except you've got more variables, because you've got more options to test. Ad type, ad placement, targeted articles vs recommendations at the bottom of each article - lots of ways to do this.

Part 1, of course, encompasses all of SEO and website building in general. All the usual ideas will work - blackhat techniques, yes, but also niche targeting, whitehat SEO, growing through social media, and all the rest. Often, the best way to drive traffic and make money - at least on a stable basis - will be to actually provide great content that people are looking for.

if you even know the state of SEO right now you won't be asking this. crappy articles/content will never work anymore

When was the last time you did a Google search? This is not true whatsoever.

Remember: it's not that hard to create good content. You don't need to be a master writer - you just need to explain things that people want to know. And you don't need to be a stone-cold expert either - you just need to know a bit more than the people reading the article!

Or you can just hire someone. Experts are often not that expensive - there are a lot of very talented bloggers out there who would love to get even a bit of money for writing about what they love.

THis was posted a while ago but here's my answer if you are still interested.

I make 95% of my money promoting CPA via SEO. For me it is all about small volumnes of laser targetted keywords. I can make around $1 per visitor to my sites with good keyword selection.

The most important skill is keyword selection everything else can be outsourced. Invest a few dollars in a good keyword tool - I use Long Tail Pro Platinum which is very quick and easy. Also look at lots of SERPS and learn what makes an easy or hard to rank for keyword.

One thing I like to do is find a product with one easy keyword and one harder keyword which are connected. For example "Blue Widgets UK" and "Blue Widgets ". Blue Widgets UK will probably have only a few searches but this is a laser targeted keyword and will convert if you push your site as a UK supplier of blue widgets. You can rank quickly for this keyword as it probably wont be so competitive, Then with the money you make from this you can reinvest on good links to rank for "blue widgets" which will have tons more searches. This also means you can quickly test the potential of the traffic and the product without wasting alot of time and money on ranking only to find its a waste of time.

I am happy to answer any more questions but wont write any more now as this sub forum is a bit of a ghost town...
