Top level domains for Euro traffic? (4)

Top level domains for Euro traffic?

I've been running some adult campaigns in EU (Germany and France) and the domain that my LP's are on is a .com domain using english words related to the adult dating niche (for example: casual-hookup-tonight.com, this is not my actual domain just an example).

My question is; is it worth investing in top level domains and using domain names in the native language of these respective countries?

Has anyone tried this and noticed a increase in the amount of conversions by doing so?

My assumption is that it will make the landing page/offer seem more authentic if the domain is in their native language and is a TLD (.de or .fr versus .com). I would just get one TLD in each country and use a domain name that is not offer specific so I could recycle it over and over on different campaigns.

Looking at some of the competition in these countries I've noticed that most people don't bother to run their LP's on top level domains of that country or in the language of that country. I've also noticed some people, who must be getting some killer volume, running the same domain in every major country. For example: yougetlaid.com.

I take this to mean that the domain name doesn't really matter or people are just too lazy to set up domains for these countries.

Anything to get an edge over the competition is always good. What do you guys think?

PS. I hear godaddy is good for top level domains because they will act as your admin in that country and do all the extra documentation/setup for you but if there is any good alternative I would love to know. Don't like godaddy that much haha, they are expensive (18$ for domain and 10$ for private whois) but I will use them it there is no other alternative.

thanks,

Drock

I've split tested this on around 5-6 different Eu countries - using ccltds vs .com or .net and didn't see any significant difference, test was statistically significant (conversions in the thousands). What I did notice is very fast campaign decay if running a lot of traffic - since the countries are smaller and its easier to get all the imps than for instance in a big country - eg USA, specifically if we are talking about ad positions that are not mainstream - 300x250, but more exotic: 160x600 etc..

BTw you can always use a local ccltd domain in the title of the .com .. Eg: running html title Sex.de in domain fickenundscheissen.com

Thanks for the awesome reply 32rfs23f23f! Guess I will buy some domain names in the language of the given country and stick to .coms for now. Thanks.

I didn't notice a huge difference, although I also didn't get enough data for it to be considered statistically significant.

I think this is one of those late stage campaign variables that is worth testing once you've got crucial factors like banners, headlines, CTAs, sales copy, images and so on down. But it's not worth spending the extra money until the rest of your funnel is solid.
