What's Your Biggest Affiliate Marketing Pain? (24)

What's Your Biggest Affiliate Marketing Pain?

We've all been there, right?

That ONE task.

It's sitting there. It's next on the to-do list. You know you've got to do it. But hey, doesn't the bathroom need cleaning? Shouldn't you reorganise your directory structure?

Isn't it time to hoover the cat?

It's easy to ignore or forget the bits of our work as affiliate marketers that just suck. But frequently, there's a lesson to be learned there - something that we could be doing more efficiently, something that'd make us a lot more money if we could just figure out a way to solve it.

So, what's your current pain point in affiliate marketing?

What's the thing that you just dread doing, that pisses you off? Or what's the thing that you always feel like you should be doing better or understand more?

If you suspect I'm asking so that the STM team can put our heads together and find a way to solve the biggest pain points in affiliate marketing - you might not be wrong...

So let us know below and help us put together a Neurofen for the pains of AM!

P.S.: Don't worry if your biggest problem is one that you think can't be solved! Stick it down anyway.

And if you could also let me know roughly where you're at with your affiliate marketing career when you reply (newbie, $xx / day, $xxx / day, $xxxx /day etc) that'd be great - although if you don't feel comfortable giving that info that's cool too.

$xx profit/$xxx rev

My biggest complaint is the time it takes to communicate with anybody (except BeyondHosting).

I changed the targeting on an AdultModa ad last night, had to be approved. Why?
I asked Adfonic specifically why they denied my ad other that "It doesn't adhere to our policies" (which doesn't explain why) and I still haven't gotten a response in 2-3 days. Why?
I joined PeerFly two months ago, no call from rep, no email from rep, didn't answer his phone, didn't return my message. Why?
I asked ExoClick a few questions about targeting and it took 2 days to respond "What do you mean by this?" Why?

I guess my next step would be finding someone in the company I can talk to quickly for simple questions, but it shouldn't be this hard to do business.

Picking up the phone and calling helps a lot! Take action, don't wait they don't own you shit and won't bother about you unless you run volume. Sad but fact. Taking action will both decrease your waiting time and showing you're serious about business.

For instance you can call Exoclick during their business times and will always get a response.

Yeah w3061, when i saw your post i wanted to say exactly what fjk87 is saying. all your questions can be solved easily -> pick up the phone and call.
Most of the time you get better information when you speak with someone on the phone, and you can build some kind of "relationship" with your reps this way

I agree and I prefer to use phone. Maybe I'm blind, but the phone number isn't listed on ExoClick, Adfonic or AdultModa. It would seem they would put that on our contact us page, but they all seem to funnel it to their contact form.

Update: I did find ExoClick's phone number in an email they sent to me after I contacted them via their form. I guess it seems that the biggest complain I have then is contacting a company via phone for the first time.

Designing stuff.

I am not good at web design. It's one thing I really need to outsource.

Testing new creatives and watching my hard earned money go flying out the window. This was especially hard last month when I first got going. It is getting progressively easier as I am starting to see the fruits of my labor.

Did have a pay-per-call offer go down after working all day on building my funnel, but managed to salvage it with a similar offer.

Other than that, shits gravy. I love it.

Thanks, guys! This is great, really interesting stuff!

For me, my biggest pain is probably similar to Maynzie's. It's when an offer I really want to work with - and usually have a working bunch of campaigns going - just randomly decides to close its doors. That has happened a few times recently, and it's a full-on face-on-keyboard moment.

Keep 'em coming, everyone!

Current pain point - Being stuck in the mid $xxx-$x,xxx/day profit range for 2 years. The moment I figure something out, I tend to get comfortable.

This has been happening to me recently: finding that killer campaign/angle, running some great tests and as soon as you scale to $xxx/day, it stops converting for some magic reason. Waiting to hear back from your network as to if its quality related or if the offer is expiring is so stressful. So i guess my biggest hurdle is not taking it personally and just moving on when something like this happens.

I'm honestly surprised how emotional/stressed I can get about my campaigns. That definitely affects my productivity.

offers with damn caps.

Scaling scaling scaling like a bawse on Facebook, raking in x,xxx/day profit comfortably all these while and out of a sudden....

"Hi, Facebook will not tolerate behavior that users may find annoying or abusive...."

That makes my dick soft for weeks...

Having enough traffic to cap out an offer 10x over.

Offers not performing consistent. Hate that feeling when you wake up and see your top converting offer where you send the majority of your traffic has dropped like a stone overnight and you feel like missing out profits ^^

I'm with the ball ache behind offers randomly disappearing, or lead quality varying for no apparent reason. It's like a dagger through the heart of your motivation to spend ages optimising a campaign and finally getting it profitable, even having your monthly earnings forecasted in to the next 7 quarters...then boom, gone.

Personally, my biggest struggle is balancing time between campaigns and projects that reap big returns (i.e affiliate marketing), and those that bring me greater satisfaction but a much lower return. There's no worse feeling than cheating on yourself. And sometimes this industry can feel like that if your more satisfying goals are swallowed up by the pursuit of higher banner CTRs, filthier offers, and so on...

I hear you there. That's something I have real trouble with too.

Just ... not ... enough ... hours ...

These days its motivation, motivation to work 14 hour days again as someone mentioned thats the hours they're putting in!

Scaling then having the offer being paused/pulled....

Coming up with a scalable outsourcing system so you don't have to be 24/7 on your computer refreshing stats
