Hey stackers, was hoping some of you could recommend your chair of choice for sitting in front of the computer working for long periods at a time. Looking to replace my old one and any feedback of what you use that helps you stay comfortable / work for a while would be much appreciated.
thanks!
At our company everyone uses ergomax ergohuman and we didn't hear a single complain actually we are pretty satisfied with it

I use a SteelCase Leap

The best thing to do is to find a store that specializes in ergonomic chairs and test them all out.
Someone once told me to never be cheap with things that keep you off the ground. Invest in good mattresses, office chairs, and shoes.
Also hitting the gym and doing back exercises help out quite a bit (rows, deadlifts, pullups)
I'm a big fan of Herman Millar, the guys who make the Aeron. Personally I've got the Mirra - it's the next one down from the Aeron, and it's still a really good chair.
Plus, you can't knock the lifetime guarantee. My cat scratched up the seat about 5 years after I bought it: one phonecall later and an engineer came out and replaced it, free of charge.
And yes, +1 for back exercises. Personally I do a lot of Pilates, which really helps improve core muscle strength and flexibility. Planks, cat stretches, and hip flexor stretches are all a good idea if you spend a lot of time in a chair.
+1 for Herman Miller Aeron chair. What to say, it solves my back pain problem.
Deadlifts and Aeron's FTW.
I like both the Aeron and the Embody, both by Herman Miller. They are both great chair, but I feel the Embody has a little more lumbar support.
My neck hurts. I can't stop leaning forward. I need a better chair. So need check out Aeron's!

Nice set up!
A chair alone may not help if it's your sitting posture that's bad. And it could happen because your desk is too high, your keyboard is too far, etc.
Beside a good chair you need:
- headrest
- highly adjustable armrests
- height-adjustable desk if possible
- slide-out keyboard tray
- foot rest

Ideally you should be able to recline slightly, pull the keyboard tray next to you, rest your head on the headrest, rest your feet on the footrest, and feel amazingly comfortable. The best chair I've ever sat on was a Lifeform, better than Aeron and everything else, but more expensive. Aerons are pretty amazing though, can't go wrong there. I'd personally just add a headrest.
@Tyler - GREAT point on getting your eyes checked. The best chair in the world won't help a bit if you're having to crane to see the screen.
Wow you guys really take this sitting down seriously. Me personally I got a nice leather executive chair from Amazon. I might have to try some of this ergohuman stuff. But really human's are just not designed to sit in a chair for so many hours on end. I try to follow a daily exercise and stretching program. It's a great stress relief and it helps stimulate your mind. I work in series of short bursts of creative energy when I'm sitting down at the computer.
But really I try to get outside and get fresh air as much as possible. My new puppy is my best friend and I have to walk him regularly. Most importantly I try to delegate as much work as possible to be done on tablet. The ipad or the new hd kindle fire is great from breaking away from the chains of the desk and chair. I work on the couch sometimes too with my laptop on the coffee table. Spending too many hours in one position, is something that I have always loathed. And the gift of affiliate marketing has made it possible to work in different places and still be highly successful and productive at working.
Tablets are the future and humans are all creatures are meant to move around regularly throughout the day. The personal computer will be a thing of the past within the next few years. Just my 2 cents.
Cheers and happy Friday!
