Hey Guys,
I read the protect your nuts 2 thread and was kind of curious how you guys set it up...
1) DO you have 1 main domain that CPVlab is set up on and then you just do CNAME every time you want to change it?
2) DO you have a different domain for all the different trackers you are using? ie. 1 domain for CPVLab, 1 domain for pofpro, 1 domain for STMMobile tracker, etc etc??
OR do you do
stm-mtracker.mytracking.com
pofpro.mytracking.com
cpvlab.mytracking.com
Whats the best way to handle this?
it is depends on individual, some prefer to host each on their own domain or subdomains, you can get .info to save some cost. go for 2nd option, lesser configuration change when you decide to dispose one of the domain.
I do a domain per tracking system install and have lots of different domains for various traffic types, e.g. wouldn't use domain I use for FB tracking for adult landers. This isn't SEO so just buy $2 info domains. If you have a VPS you can get multiple IPs and make multiple cPanel accounts, allowing you to add all the domains as addon domains but keep them somewhat ordered - i.e. a cpanel account that only has tracking domains on it, another for lander domains. I do this simply because when I log in via FTP I can use one username to get to all the lander domains grouped together.
If you can afford it, don't share ips or domains.
Just take a look at a report on a tool like Follow and you will know why.
FUCK! You can see everything!
How about name servers?
Can they be changed easily?
I tend to use DigitalOcean's VPSes for exactly this reason if I need additional tracking servers or domains - it's very fast and cheap to spin up a new IP and new server.
That also makes your servers more secure, because you're not running everything on one box.
As for domains - don't just go for .coms. .info or some of the other second-level options are much cheaper, often about $4.
