$90,000 in one month for 70M ad impressions. Decent?

I was with a friend and he showed me his stats today. He runs a small media company that basically publishes newsletters everyday. He monetizes through newsletters ads. He has a deal with some exchanges where he gets paid for ad impressions (doesn't get paid per click, impressions only).

Last month he make $90k for 70M ad impressions. How is that by STM standards?

The beauty of his operation is that it's low risk, he doesn't have to worry about campaigns going bad or losing money as long as he publishes quality content and his readers are engaged.

It's not a big CPM but then again this is email.

it depends on his vertical, and the audience demographics.

It's a news site and newsletter, news like CNN type news, very broad demographic but US-based. He's playing the volume game. I wanted to know how his operation compared with the top dogs here, and if they think he's making the most of that volume of impressions.

*cough* stackman, Mr. Green, and other super affiliates *cough*

Depends on niche. Depends how targeted it is. Quite impossible to put a statement just based on this two factors in my opinion.

You're saying he monetizes via newsletter ads. How are those lists built? For instance a targeted finance list is way much much (and MUCH) more than a targeted dating / online gaming list.

If he's making good profit then, he's doing decent . As long as he's constantly testing things, asking for higher payouts and lower ad prices then he's on the right track!
