In CPV lab you are given an option to input URL Append Token, and another option to capture Extra tokens...
What are their functions? And what are the advantages of having extras ones?
I see that there are different ones such as:
&keyword=keywordSearched
&keyword={src_hostname}
&keyword={keyword}
&keyword=%KEYWORD%
What do they mean? & How do we find out which one our traffic source uses? For example I'm trying to use Traffic Junky, I need to add this traffic source manually since it is not predefined source in cpvlab... I assume its similar to Exoclicks, so therefore its &keyword={src_hostname} correct?
Thanks
It allows you to track based on keywords in your CPVLab so you're seeing what converts. Mainly for PPC guys.
I would love to see a sticky with a reference for all of the known tokens.
I searched around in the forums and didn't see a whole lot. cpvlab has a few in their docs but didn't see a lot of them either.
For the most part it should be diligence on your part by asking your traffic source via help files, support tickets or talking to your rep. You can't expect CPVlab or any tracking platform to know these, there are just too many traffic sources and their available tokens can change at any time.
Generally you would pass virtually every useful token available to you within reason, it's better to have data and not need it than need it and not have it. If you can target campaigns at your traffic source by the thing the token is describing (e.g. URL/keyword/domain/etc) then you should pass it. If you can't target campaigns based on that specific token, e.g. a garbled placement ID, you can at least see if there is a difference in back end conversion rates for it, and subsequently may be able redirect it accordingly as part of your optimisation. Micromanagement at it's finest, though can be tricky if you're new to it all.
I agree it's not the responsibility of the tracking platforms or anyone else but myself to find out. I just thought it might be useful for us to share a list of the more popular stuff.
Thanks for the help everyone, I decided to put it as &keyword={src_hostname} and started sending traffic... figured theres no point getting stuck because of these little things for now, since I'm not exactly PPC & not targetting keywords it shouldn't effect me for now anyway. I'm more concerned if the tracker actually works!
