LP's - Why do they convert

I am curious as to why a Landing Page helps with conversions?

How is a landing page created by myself going to be better than direct linking to an offer? I mean if the offer has a good LP then why does a custom LP convert better?

Also by creating a LP are we not creating more space for the lead to exit and not complete the offer?

So I have been using W@rdpress and H@stgator for my websites, is this combination still going to be effective for creating LP's?

From the example LP's I have seen they appear to basically mimic the LP of the offer anyway, so how does this help as opposed to direct linking?

Just some newbie Q's before I kick start a campaign...

Cheers!

It's my understanding and let the more experienced guys take over if I'm wrong but the idea behind a lander is to help presell the offer. You'll have more luck trying to laser target your traffic and tailor your landing page to that specific traffic thus increasing the chance they'll convert. You might describe benefits that would be specific to them and images they'd find more appealing. Also, the actual offer page might not be that great at selling but you could have them sold already with a good lander before they reach it. You mention possibly losing traffic from the extra step of going through the lander, I think that the idea here is that they wouldn't have been considered that great of traffic to begin with. As far as mimicking the offer page, I think this is more about keeping continuity through the entire funnel. The same way you wouldn't want your ad to be radically different from your lander.
I'll be interested in hearing what others have to say since I'm working on honing my skills in this area right now. This is what I understand to be correct and am posting partially to confirm this for myself so if I'm wrong I hope to find out.
Good luck man.

I am curious as to why a sales person helps with conversions?

How is a sales person going to be better than just showing the store's goods? I mean if the goods have a nice box then why does a sales person convert better?

Also by having a sales person are we not creating more distractions for the lead to exit and not pick up the box and complete the purchase?

From the example sales persons I have seen they appear to be a part of the store anyway, so how does this help as opposed to just showing the goods?

Test. Sometimes LPs work better, sometimes direct linking does. Every test I run splits traffic to 3 pages: the offer itself (direct-linking), a short version of a proven LP, a slightly longer version of a proven LP.

Wordpress is fine but you gotta start using HTML pages instead, it loads a metric shit load faster. WP calls database etc. and even a simple one, with all the unnecessary functions, can be 10x the size of a simple HTML file.

Hostgator is crap, get onto a VPS as soon as you can afford it, especially if you are tracking everything as the redirects will be slow as a mother.

I never really looked at it like that...

That is a very basic and straight forward approach, that makes perfect sense. Being great at the basics is what is going to keep me ahead of the game. I think like most people new to IM, we tend to over think things and forget the all time classic rule of KISS (keep it simple silly)...

Oh that sux, but at least I can remedy the problem... Thanks for your input, much appreciated.
