3 Feet From Gold :) Android App Install Follow Along

Hey All,

I've learned so many great things from this forum. My intention with this thread is to hold myself accountable to make a new campaign work, and to share tips and the small experience I've gained over the past 8 months I've been in the affiliate game.

My Daily Goals:

1) Make 5 Fresh Ads.
2) A/B Split Test One Variable
3) Report Stats on this thread
4) Make $100/day profit and a min of 50% ROI

Here It Goes

Offer: Android App Install (Not saying which one yet )
Traffic source: Mobile
Lander: N/A - Direct Linking At This Point
Tracking: Imobitrax

Day 1
Spend: $92.55
Rev: $133.00
P/L: 40.45
ROI: 43.7%

Not Bad for a first day. My goal is to test one variable per day and 5 fresh ads, as with past experience these type of ads burn out in 2-3 days.

Today's Test:

Testing targeting one cell carrier, and calling out the carrier name in the ad. This gives me the option of more angles.

let me guess...
you calling out the carrier in the ad, so this app might be a signal booster.

Hey man, its not a signal booster, but I like ads like "Vodafone has (3) F*R*E*E Apps Remaining" So I'm trying a new campaign for each carrier tomorrow. Waiting on the traffic.

I don't want to burst your bubble but if you are calling out carriers in your ads you should check with your AM if its okay. I've been charged back for this in the past.

If you are running battery apps in Australia - get your ads approved!!! you'll thank me later.

Don't worry about it too much. You can still make it work

Thanks for the tips deondup. I'm new to this and all the tips and info really help.

If you can, make your ads animated GIFs

You can always make your ads/landing page look similar to the carriers "look" as well if they don't want you specifically calling out carriers

Day 2
Spend: $52.44
Rev: $95.50
P/L: $43.06
ROI: 45%

I lowered my CPC bid today and the ROI was about the same as yesterday. Submitted 20 new ads today and all of them were rejected. Going to wait a few hours and submit the ads again.

Thanks Stackman, I'm using push traffic right now, I'm going to test .gif banners. Although I have trouble getting them approved.

Trying to scale this up, but I'm running out of traffic money. I have a payout coming from one network from last month but I need some of that money for living expenses.

What Stackman said, if you have problems directly calling out carrier names, use the same style sheet the carriers would use. I'm not sure what offer you are using, but if it doesn't say anything along the lines of "Vodafone has (3) F*R*E*E Apps Remaining", then I would definitely recommend testing a lander.

If you are running traffic to the same network that you are waiting on the payment for ask for an early payment exception.

Thanks Mr Green. Great Advice. Used the offer lander as a template for my own lander, with the addition of calling out the carrier. Testing now!

Day 3
Spend: $44.02
Rev: $47.50
P/L: $3.48
ROI: ~0%

Today was basically a wash. I spend like 3 hours copying the offer lander and making my own version with a few tweaks. I was going to take a jpg pic of the lander and just put a css button on it, but I ended up just copying all the html.

Testing it overnight as well as 5 new ads.

Push traffic does not last long for me. 2-3 days max. Gotta figure out ways to keep the ROI up. Basically I think this comes down to testing every day.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice. Going to keep plugging away at this.

Day 4
Spend: $2.42
Rev: $9.50
P/L: $7.08
I went from getting $100 a day traffic from airpush to basically nothing. Upped my bids a lot today and tested a lander, an exact copy of the offer with the exception of telling the user they have a virus and a gif that looks like its scanning the phone. The CTR for the lander was around 10% but only had one conversion. I'll test this more tomorrow when I get more traffic.

Here's an image of the lander.

Why don't you keep your profitable direct linking campaign going while you are testing out the landers?

A 10% ctr ain't going to get you profitable on push. Try reading some of the guides about airpush on the forum. The reason your traffic is so low might be because your campaign ctrs may have tanked, which means that your push allocation for the day would of gone right down with it.

Thanks for the great advice Mr Green.

You should talk to your account manager at Airpush. You are not on the traffic. Its not all about CTR either. Find out what the optimal bid and budget is for your targeting and then focus on CTR

Thanks Deondup.

I'm getting very creative with my ads and trying to get my CTR up as per Mr Greens advice. No traffic again today.

Day 5
Spend: $50.94
Rev: $28.50
P/L: -$22.43

Day 6
Spend: $63.82
Rev: $66.50
P/L: $2.68

Day 7
Spend: $18.25
Rev: $85.50
P/L: $67.25

Last few days I've been focusing on a adult dating WAP and just letting this run while adding new ads and cutting handsets with no conversions. Push traffic is so inconsistent. Not sure what I'm going to do with this. I got a adult WAP offer profitable last night and I was super excited, there is insane volume and im bidding CPM so it's more fun for me to make gif banners and get one with a nice CTR.

Day 8
Spend: $45.08
Rev: $133.00
P/L: $87.92

I'm manually day parting now (set a alarm on my phone to remind me) and I'm doing much better. I've been running the same single ad for 3 days....

airpush can be kind of wonky w traffic if you are not at the top bidding tiers. i would definitely suggest reaching out to them and talking to an AM. also try out other push networks like senddroid or leadbolt

04-30-2013 12:03 AM #19 francis (Member)

Thanks Falcon, I'm going to be persistant with them and going to keep trying to contact them. I've tested leadbolt but will try senddroid asap. Thanks again man

You are wasting your time trying to day-part on Airpush. They only serve ads during certain hours of the day anyway and stopping and starting campaigns is generally not a good idea on AP. Again, talk to your rep bid high with big budgets and at least find out what the ceiling is of your traffic

04-30-2013 04:01 AM #21 joejoechen (Member)

i vouch for deondup. Just a couple days ago i set a new campaign over at AP as a small test, i had a 24 bucks balance, but my budget was 99999 daily, right after it was approved i spent almost 120.. 100 bucks extra my balance. Setting your budgets very high is one of the keys
