Facepile Hack To Increase LP Conversions

This forum is so proper...
Just wanted to give a gem back.
(Forgive me if this is already mentioned somewhere)

Overview: In short this is a little exploit trick of the "Facepile" function to increase conversion rates of your LP or Squeeze page, through added social proof/validation.

Description: Facepile is an FB function which allows you to enter your fanpage, customize the layout, then spits out an iFrame of fan's who have liked your fanpage that your friends with on Facebook.

The Catch: You can put ANY fanpage URL in there, and it will still give you the code. But even more importantly, it doesn't say the name of the fanpage your drawing from in the output

So you can throw in a URL to a massive fanpage (or a large fanpage in the niche your targeting), and then odds are... the visitor will see several of his friends faces as "likes" on your LP. He'll have no choice but to interpret this as those friends liking/endorsing your LP.

Below is the Facepile iFrame code of the fanpage "music" with over 23million fans...

HTML Code:
<iframe src="http://www.facebook.com/plugins/facepile.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fpages%2FMusic%2F112936425387489&amp;width=400&amp;max_rows=4" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:400px;" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>
Example: You can see it on this BS test page, I put on an old blog I have here:
http://extendpetlife.com/fbliketest/

If you, or any of your friends "like" the fanpage "Music" you'll see their face on that page. Odds are you might, considering how large the fanpage is, and how general/universal of a fanpage it is.

Test it out.
Throw it on an LP and see if it doesn't boost your conversions. It's great to add right above your opt-in fields or CTA buttons. Leveraging some copy around it (like I did in the above example) as well adds even more power to it.

Here's the link to the Facepile developer page to create your own iFrames:

Enjoy!

If only we could combine multiple sites in there... that would be a huge ass social proof.

Awesome tip, going to implement this right away!

I feel the mod in me must mention......please seek legal advice before doing such things as it represents a possible "fake" testimonial for your product/offer.....

This is pretty slick.

Will have to use it with caution.

I think this is pretty awesome! It obviously needs to be used with caution though

This definitely would increase conversions but it can be sketchy because it's part of facebook's "site terminology" which is against TOS. Not quite sure though.

Yeah I've seen that, it's cool but I don't love it personally, I'd rather run the fbook social plugin legit and buy a few thousand likes, works even better on conversions though yes, you do need to spend some cash for likes. The thing with this facepile deal is you have to be logged into facebook to see it and that pisses me off.

Yes, there's a decent chance a good percentage of your traffic will still be logged into facebook, but how much I don't know. With the social plugin, you see the likes and faces of others even without being logged in. In my tests, people seem far more impressed looking at the social plugin with thousands of likes, even when they don't see their friends listed.

Social proof is social proof, pimp is a pimp.

Where is the best place to buy likes? I have seen several places on the net but never tried it.

http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...facebook+likes

Or search WickedFire...

Cheap as hell.

do you usually buy likes off wickedfire or where?

I noticed the iFrame doesn't work in Chrome or Safari... works great in Firefox. Am I missing something. Tried it myself and tried looking at the original example.

Well I don't go on wickedfire, because I'm not gay, (just kidding, sort of) however the guy I use was referred to me by a friend who found him on there last year so I assume WF at least has a couple decent fbook like providers. I don't really want to give his name out since he gets slower and slower on delivery the more jobs he seems to get but this is not a hard service to find.

Avg cost is about $100 per thousand. I've actually done multiple split tests for fun and there's little difference in conversion between 1000 and 3000 likes, so save your money and just go with 1000. There is however a difference when you get to 10,000 likes, which depending on what volume you run, might be worth it. You can always start with 1000 and go from there.

Also, you'll be getting a number of legit likes which thanks to the new version of "like" http://blog.360i.com/social-media/facebook-like-share has lead to a lot more free traffic than it has in the past for me.

Works perfectly in Chrome...

Another tip that I will add is that if you're going to use this technique, make sure to put a DIV beneath the facepile, and position it absolutely or relatively (with either no background or opacity set to 0 so it's transparent) so that the DIV covers the facepile and makes it NOT CLICKABLE by the users who visit the page.

Traffic costs money, why risk having your visitors click an image of their friend, opening their FB profile in a new tab, and getting distracted from your LP when you can stop this from happening... I don't have any data to back this up, but I'm 99% sure just SEEING their friend's images on your profile page will be all the social proof they need!

Yup, same here. Also not working in Explorer for me too.

Ive tested this on a few PPV campaigns and my landers WITH THIS trick have a CTR about 7% worse then without it.

Could be people clicking thru to FB, so I will try to div maybe, but this trick is not working well on all landers.
