I've seen various affiliates collect emails through desktop marketing, prior to redirecting to the offer.
Then burning the list with offers.
Has anyone tried this? Firstly, collecting emails, then burning the list, WRT mobile marketing.
Yes...
So I guess the next part is, what's your real question here?
Is it possible? Yep.
Are there pitfalls? Of course.
Things that make it work better? yup.
Pitfalls I can list off the top of my head:
-people fat-finger their emails and you end up with much lower deliverability (unless you're verifying the email on the spot - I think there's a script for that).
-if they filled it out on the phone, law of averages, many of them probably will check the email on their phone (meaning, send stuff out that will convert on mobile)
-I get a lot more unsubscribes from mobile lists (and a lot more pissed off people) than I do on web lists. I think it's the process - someone on their computer is usually relaxing, actually reading your page. On mobile, you've got limited space to get them to opt in, and they're usually otherwise distracted (in line at the movie theater, watching TV, etc.) - so in other words, watch out for spam complaints.
That said, I know a guy who builds bizopp lists on mobile and does really well selling them stuff. So...it's possible. Just gotta split test until it's running the way you want it to.
Oh - and things that make it work better:
-just the basics, really - like optimizing the LP...
-having a good offer
-giving people a reason to opt in (on the web, you can give stuff away...on mobile, it doesn't always make sense to give a PDF or free report)
-split testing everything (banners / ad text / placements / headline / etc.)
I'm sure others can think of more here...or...maybe that wasn't even your question??
Oh - and another pitfall - you'll make less conversions on that initial offer, unless your email opt in does an awesome job of pre-selling that offer.
hey liane, great response. I always worry about the conversion drop from requesting more info other than just a click. I have made this work w/ desktop offers but the effort required stopped me from keeping up on it. Your explanation gives me a much better idea of what to expect and how to go about it for mobile.
With getresponse or aweber you can have people subscribe to your list via facebook in one tap if they are logged into facebook on their mobile which is most people meaning less incorrect email address and more emails to monetize on the back end for you
Bizz op is very good for this type of method only problem is trying to break even on the front end.
